One Health Student Essay Competition
Ten thousand years ago, a sheep sneezed, and humans have been battling the common cold ever since…
Well, maybe it didn’t go exactly like that, but we do know that when humans, animals, agriculture, and the environment interact, it creates a web of connections and relationships that tie us all together. The study of this web of connections is called “One Health,” and it is an area of scientific research that has become even more important since we saw an animal virus spill over to humans and cause the COVID-19 pandemic.
We believe that if tomorrow’s healthcare workers, elected officials, and active citizens had a better understanding of One Health, it can reshape the way our world interacts with disease. Therefore, we would like to see what students at your high school think as you learn about One Health, and invite you to create a written, video, or audio essay on the subject.
Possible topics include: One Health in human history, a scientific discussion of One Health, the politics of One Health, potential impacts of One Health on your community, or any other area involving One Health that you consider significant.
